The newly designed Freestyler Severne Psycho is available in three sizes (86/94/102 litres), smaller versions with 72 and 78 litres can be supplied to order. Compared to the previous model, the Psycho 3 has become significantly more compact, with the tested 102 litre version now only 209 centimetres long. To pack in the volume, the stern, bow and rails are very voluminous. The straps are double-bolted and the power box is "foil approved".
How the Severne Psycho rides
In the planing phase, the Psycho pays a little tribute to its shape modifications - the short board with the wide nose pushes a little more through the water in displacement mode and requires an active riding style to get up to speed. However, if you pump hard, you will quickly overcome the small glide threshold and be rewarded with powerful acceleration and a good level of speed. The Psycho also holds its speed very well when switching to switch stance, ducking or simply in wind holes - the best conditions for power and sliding moves.
The Psycho is remarkably direct and light-footed in double-jump power moves: the voluminous but narrow tail doesn't stick to the water at all, but can be pushed off exceptionally well over the back foot and prefers to tilt directly into a second rotation. Despite the radically angular tail, the board slides comfortably through classic manoeuvres such as spock or flaka. The twenty-centimetre-long fin supplied has a wide profile for a freestyle tail and plenty of grip - tuned for power freestyle. In addition, the Psycho also performs tight turns over the back foot very well; the short board is less fond of long carved radii.
