The Vayu Eos impresses in comparison as a successful all-rounder that offers all possible grip system options. Read the test to find out whether it also has weaknesses.

On land

The Eos Wing is the successor to the VVing V3, but has been significantly redesigned. It is available in seven sizes between 3.0 and 6.0 square metres. It is also available in three colour combinations. Compared to the Aura Wing, which we have also already tested for youthe Eos has a lower aspect ratio and is therefore less stretched. Overall, the Eos has a high fabric tension and makes a flawless impression in this respect. Large windows have been incorporated, although the view through them is poor due to the X-Ply material used - but the material is less prone to creasing.

The wing is well equipped on the front tube, the seams are well protected with additional seams and the front handle is also large, stiff and comfortably lined with neoprene. Fortunately, the front handle also offers very direct contact with the wing when you let the wing drift in the wave, for example. When it comes to the handle system, Vayu favours maximum flexibility: the Eos comes with two carbon handles as standard. These are easy to grip as they have a small diameter and a non-slip coating. The positioning is suitable, but one-handed riding is not really possible. If this is exactly what you want, you can replace the carbon grips with a full-length boom. The conversion takes just a few minutes. Small drawback: A separate boom is required for each size of the Eos, which costs between 99 and 159 euros depending on the length. If you want to save some more weight, you can also fit the soft handles - all in all, all three handle systems can be used - but even with fixed handles, the Vayu Eos is one of the lightest wings on the market, weighing in at 2.55 kilos. For the valve system, Vayu relies on a SUP system on the front tube and strut. However, the wing can also be quickly deflated using a one-pump system without having to change the plugs.

On the water

Compared to the predecessor model VVing V3 (HERE is a test) the Eos has a slightly flatter design. This means that the new one The Eos requires a little more effort when starting up - but the bottom line is that the light wind power of the Eos is still impeccable. If you are travelling in light winds, you can reduce the inflation pressure to 7.5 to 8 psi - then the wing flexes a little more and can be pumped even more efficiently. When powered up, the Eos is nice and tight in the hand, nothing warps, even when heavy chunks pull on the handles or the gusts get stronger. The Eos also scores with good flight stability - it flies without fidgeting, is well balanced in the hands and achieves a high top speed.

In addition to its convincing freeride suitability, the wing is also extremely light in manoeuvres. At a measured 2.55 kilos, it is also one of the lighter wings on the market in absolute terms. Tacking with the Wing is above average and it is wonderfully easy to manoeuvre. tip-to-tip fold down. It is also neutral when manoeuvring to leeward, the trailing edge of the wing hardly tends to sink. This has a positive effect when jibing, as well as in swell or surf waves. However, the Eos is wonderfully balanced when flying downwind and riding waves. In our opinion, the stable brother Aura II can do this a little better - but the Eos is damn close and is also at the highest level in this respect in a cross-brand comparison. The Vayu Eos has no weaknesses when it comes to tricks either - it is easy to hold and rotates nimbly through all the usual freestyle rotations.

Vayu Eos - the conclusion

With the EOS, Vaju has created an absolutely all-round and wonderfully balanced wing for a particularly broad target group. The wing impresses as a freeride wing for cruising, for smooth foil manoeuvres, but also for excursions into the thin wave or into the world of freestyle tricks.
