The long and very narrow downwind boards (HERE no other board concept enables such early take-off in light winds. The fact that the boards are less playful in the air due to their length and more difficult to control in manoeuvres due to their narrow width is one of the downsides of these concepts.
That's why JP-Australia has created the R-Winger. Everything about this board is designed to generate enough base speed for easy take-off and quick recovery after touchdown. The rails are sharp to guarantee a clean water release and to get airborne without delay. This glide surface should be flat and maximised in length to facilitate take-off. The decision not to install a handle should also pay off with perfect take-off behaviour and also make the board lighter.
In direct comparison to pure downwind boards, the R-Winger is not quite as long, slightly wider and can also be surfed with foot straps. Nevertheless, it remains significantly longer than typical all-round boards and is designed to combine the best of both worlds. For comparison: The JP-Australia R-Winger with 95 litres has a length of 183 centimetres (6'0'') and a width of 58 centimetres (23'') - that is around 25 centimetres longer and eight centimetres narrower than the all-round wingboard X-Winger with 99 litres (HERE there's a test of the JP X-Winger). The range of use of the R-Winger should therefore extend from light wind freeride to racing.
The JP-Australia R-Winger is available in three sizes with 65/80 and 95 litres. Prices range from 1899 to 1999 euros. Further information is available HERE on the manufacturer's website.
