In comparison, the Tabou DaBomb turns out to be a fast, easy-turning wave board for the North and Baltic Sea. Read on to find out whether the concept also has its downsides.

As a supplement to its sister model DaCurve (HERE is a test), the DaBomb is designed as an all-rounder for typical Euro wave conditions. We have tested the board extensively.

On land:

Compared to the DaCurve, the DaBomb is somewhat shorter and slightly wider. The bow and stern sections are kept rather slim, with a moderate double concave V running through the underwater hull from front to back. The upturn in the stern area ("tail kick") is also moderate. The heavily doubled pads in the heel area take a little getting used to. These offer great cushioning, but standing with a high heel is not everyone's cup of tea. The DaBomb is supplied with thruster fins from K4 Fins, which are quite strongly curved and therefore flex more. The straps are ok, but offer less comfort than many other models.

On the water:

In chop, the Tabou DaBomb with its slim bow and stern sections is a little more tippy in the water - but that's about all the criticism. The board converts gusts perfectly into speed, accelerates powerfully and achieves a high top speed as well as a sporty, free planing position. This makes it a great way to look for suitable ramps to make the airspace unsafe on the way through the surf. The riding characteristics are pleasing in that the board is lively and agile, but still offers the necessary level of control and damping in rough conditions.

The board is particularly impressive in small and medium wave heights: It has a lively and variable effect when riding waves, and you can adjust the radii at any time to hit the lip of the wave at the desired point. However, when the wave gets rough and the wind gets strong, the Tabou requires a lot more concentration when riding waves - it tends to dance across the water and doesn't quite offer the full edge grip and rail-like control that its sister model, the DaCurve, scores so highly with. However, because the DaBomb is also excellent at picking up speed in unpressurised waves, the board offers ideal conditions for getting the best out of "bad" conditions and stringing together powerful turns and wave moves.

Tabou DaBomb 84 - the conclusion:

Gliding, lively and variable - the DaBomb is a great toy for typical Euro wave conditions. Only those looking for maximum control for big, powerful ocean waves or rough spots will not be 100 per cent happy here.
