Practical items for your next tour - or stylish things as a gift for a favourite paddler? We introduce you to SUP accessories that we find useful, exciting, practical or simply beautiful after many years of SUP touring!

1 thermos flask from Wasserliebe

Water love - if this name doesn't fit the SUP tour, what does? Is it love of the water or love found on the water? The thermos flasks from Wasserliebe in Bremen keep your favourite tea hot on cold SUP days and the water refreshingly cold on hot days. Made of stainless steel - sustainable and for eternity - with lovingly selected motifs for the wooden lid.

The double-walled vacuum flask with the turtle, jellyfish or ammonite motif on the lid costs €24.90 for 0.5 litres and €29.90 for 0.75 litres. What can we say? We love tasty drinks - hot or cold - on every SUP tour.

2 Sun protection from Mawaii

The sun's rays burn several times stronger on the water than on land. This is where suitable sun protection with nature protection comes in - at least that's what Mawaii promises for its sun protection products, which are said to be reef-friendly (without a whole range of harmful additives) and specially developed for outdoor sports enthusiasts - i.e. quickly absorbed without leaving a greasy film on the skin. There are also no preservatives and all products are vegan to boot.

The pen for lip care costs 4.95 euros, the small combination pack for lips and face (12.26 euros) also fits perfectly as an emergency reserve in the first aid kit (page 8), the tube with 175 ml, protection factor 50 costs 24.95 euros >> available here.

3. Blaek instant coffee

Blaek also wants to offer premium flavour in instant coffee, which is so practical when you're on the go. To achieve this, the Hamburg-based company relies on "extraction at a particularly low temperature." Without going into the depths of coffee production, we simply tried it and were pleasantly surprised by the good, strong coffee flavour. The small portion sachets are packaged without aluminium, the beans used are 100 per cent Arabica beans, without preservatives, fair trade and not from monocultures.

A box with seven portions costs 3.99 euros >> e.g. at Roastmarket available.

4 Stainless steel lunch box from Skotti

This lunch box will probably last for the next 20 years and then get a new life as a screw, cooking pot or swimming ladder. Until then, however, you have a freshness guarantee on all SUP tours for your enjoyable break. What have we already fished out of our waterproof bags: bananas only for squeezing, cheese and ham sandwiches in pieces or marble cake in crumb form? No more of that! The stainless steel tin is from Skotti (that's right, the brand with the rocket dog logo and the smallest collapsible gas barbecue in the range). It comes with a handle that turns the tin into a pot or pan.

The Skotti Boks in the standard size of one litre costs 29 euros, the family box with a capacity of 2.5 litres and a height of eleven centimetres costs 31 euros. Our tasters say: everything stays just as it should be.

5 Mawaii swimming goggles Bamboo:LE

A different interpretation of swimming goggles. The chic Mawaii Bamboo:LE goggles are light as a feather, made from bamboo and not only float in milk, but also when they go overboard. They are very comfortable to wear and ensure carefree paddling fun without fear of losing your precious goggles.

In the exclusive wooden box, the glasses with polarised lenses (8 colours to choose from) cost 99 euros.

6 Opinel knives for paddlers

The 50,000 euro question: Is "Opinel" A: A French soft cheese, B: A surgeon's cutlery or C: A famous folding knife? Opinel is certainly no stranger to holidaymakers in France and in fact every outdoor enthusiast. The famous Opinel knife with a wooden handle has a lesser-known, SUP-compatible brother. The handle is permanently water-resistant and there are two screwdriver bits in the handle - exactly the ones you need all the time. A slotted screwdriver for the fin and a Phillips screwdriver for the vario paddle. Both fit into the holder at the end of the handle, which also holds other standard bits. We think: super practical!

Available for 23.95 euros

7 Solid cordage

Actually simple: a solid rope, slightly stiffer so that it can be unknotted when wet, with two carabiners attached to it. For anchoring, towing, mooring luggage or for hoisting luggage and boards out of the water at a ladder exit. It's all been done before. You can tie it yourself or buy it ready-made for approx. 12 euros >> e.g. from Decathlon available.

8 Indiana sun hat

A classic among longboard surfers and just as practical for sunny SUP tours. The wide brim not only protects the head, but also the ears and neck. Dip into the water once at 30 degrees for head air conditioning. One size fits all, but fits well.

Costs 35 euros

9 Luggage net kit from Sport Vibrations

With the do-it-yourself kit from Sport Vibrations, the luggage compartment on most iSUPs can be easily enlarged. Has the second net been saved on your board? Or is it too small for increased transport requirements? No problem.

Four eyelets (including elastic and adhesive for 24.99 euros) can be individually attached to the board.

10 Campfire starter kit

When you unpack this little magic box at a suitable fireplace, you can be sure of an astonished look. You are both a magician and a firebug. The small wooden puzzle for grown-ups from the traditional outdoor brand Petromax can be put together in 30 seconds and is sure to light any fireplace, barbecue or campfire with the included tinder. You can boast "I've made a fire!" much faster than Cast-Away-Tom-Hanks. For Rüdiger Nehberg survival fans, this might be a little too easy, but not everyone grew up in a bearskin in Alaska. And for these people, i.e. for us, this is the safe route to a beautiful firelight.

Each ignition stage costs €1.49, and four matches give you a real chance of success. Our verdict: Cool idea and - it works! >> e.g. at Mountain friends available.

11 Anchor bag / rubbish collection bag

Sturdy bag made from organic cotton that you can always use with a little creativity. One side can be filled with stones or gravel as an anchor bag (in combination with the rope), the other side as a rubbish collection bag for cleaning out streams - or simply as a stylish shopping bag. Price: 10 euros.

12 Lifelong commitment: Smart Finbolt

This screw, the Smart Finbolt, has got the hang of it. The screw is fitted once in the fin and then never taken out again. The small plate always stays on and cannot be lost. It fits through the slot in the fin box, is then turned 90 degrees and tightened - totally easy. This screw is available as standard from some manufacturers, but can now also be retrofitted.

Costs 8 to 13 euros, for example at Mountain friends available.

13 Adidas Shield sunglasses SP0074

The Adidas Shield sunglasses SP0074 from the Performance Range offer you an unobstructed panoramic view despite an elegant, narrow frame. Weighing just 43 grams, the sunglasses sit light as a feather on your nose, water rolls off the mirrored lenses and after three paddle strokes you'll forget you're wearing glasses. The tint is medium and makes the goggles versatile. The high-end line costs 149 euros.

14 Organic brush

Verdigris, algae, mud or footprints - the textured deck pads on our boards can be exposed to some pretty tough challenges. With a natural brush like this, even stubborn dirt can be scrubbed away thoroughly. Price: 3.95 euros.

15 Indo Balance Board and

Cyclists often pedal for hours "on the roller" in winter. These rollers are not only training equipment, but also real fun equipment with a surfing feel for the living room. You can playfully train your balance, strength and coordination, and in combination with weights, they are a great addition to a crossfit training programme. The latest creation from Moritz Martin, former German SUP champion, the Balance Board (left), is attached to a rope system on a Blackroll and cushions and protects your training from falls. The roller can also be used separately, as in the training session with Ole Schwarz (page 82). The device is largely produced in Germany and costs 149 euros (without roller).

16 Indo Board Balance Trianer

The IndoBoard, often referred to as the original, costs 185 euros and rolls on a very robust roller on any terrain and is perhaps the more demanding, freer version without a net and double bottom. The board is available from Available on Amazon.
