The Cabrinha X-Series Foil is available in five sizes
The Cabrinha X-Series 1240 convinced us as an easy to fly and manoeuvrable foil. Read on to find out whether it also has its downsides and who it is suitable for.

The X-Series foils from manufacturer Cabrinha are designed as mid-aspect foils for a broad target group. Five front wing sizes are available with 700/930/1240/1650 and 2100 cm2. We tried out the medium size with a surface area of 1240 cm2.

On land

With a wingspan of 87 centimetres, the X-Series 1240 has an average aspect ratio of 6.10. The front wing offers a lot of surface area in the middle section, while the wingtips are kept visibly slim. Cabrinha does not screw the front wing onto the fuselage in the classic way; instead, the front wing and the front part of the fuselage consist of a single carbon part. The mast is also inserted into this. The screw connection is "only" made with two thinner M6 Torx screws, but the installed cross bolt should absorb the majority of the forces that occur. A comparatively short aluminium fuselage (34.6 centimetres) is then screwed on at the rear, on which the stabiliser also sits, which is also fixed with two M6 Torx screws - the real fuselage length is therefore longer and is 73.5 centimetres (measured from the front edge of the front wing to the rear edge of the stabiliser). We used a Cabrinha Fusion aluminium mast with a length of 85 centimetres for the test. Please note: Cabrinha generally sells its foil kits without a mast - you can then choose between four mast lengths of 40/65/75 and 85 centimetres. Overall, the components make a flawless and perfectly fitting impression. The X-Series kit also includes matching covers for the wings and the Tracknut Train for quick assembly of the foil on the board.

On the water

The X-Series 1240 Foil makes a very good impression right from the first few metres, as it accepts pumping pulls willingly and scores with a very early, extremely harmonious and predictable take-off. Even once it has taken off, it tracks its course with good control. If you release the wingtips - whether accidentally or in a tight foil manoeuvre - you won't be punished with a stall straight away, on the contrary: the X-Series Foil recovers well and is therefore extremely forgiving. In manoeuvres, it pulls wonderfully smoothly and predictably in different radii: it picks up speed well in wide radii, but is also not stubborn when you apply a lot of pressure to pull tighter radii or turns on small swell waves. When it comes to speed potential, the bar is set by other foils - nevertheless, the X-Series 1240 is far from being slow or even boring. If you build up the right body tension and push, you can get enough top speed out of the foil to make high jumps or freestyle moves with it. We also liked the Cabrinha foil in the waves. Although it is not one of those foils that can get the maximum out of knee-high wind waves with maximum glide, as soon as a waist-high swell kicks in, the X-Series 1240 can already be pumped along the wave slopes. Turns are also effortless - not as tight and radical as, for example, with a Duotone Aero Carvebut always smooth and easy to control. The bottom line is that the 1240 is absolutely balanced in the wave, although not extremely agile when turning and pumping due to the longer fuselage.

Cabrinha X-Series 1240 - the conclusion

Early takeoff, good control and manoeuvres like a hot knife through butter - the X-Series 1240 scores as a super all-round foil with plenty of potential for all kinds of foil manoeuvres, moderate turns in the swell and jumps. If you want to get even more top speed out of it, you should consider the H-Series foils from Cabrinha.
