Impact protection harness combinations are in vogue, and we have already shown you several models, such as the ION Rush Vest or the Wingman waistcoat, presented. Now ProLimit has also launched such a product on the market with the Shield Vest - we have tried it out.
Thick pads, great freedom of movement
The ProLimit Shield Vest costs 189 euros and is available in four sizes (S/M/L/XL). There is a small zip on the side of the torso, which makes it very easy to get into. However, the positioning at this point is not 100 per cent comfortable in terms of operation. The padding is very thick, especially in the chest area (35 mm), but the back area also appears to be well protected with 15 millimetres of padding. Nevertheless, the ProLimit Shield Vest offers sufficient freedom of movement in the arms and neck.
The hook sits on a wide strap and can move sideways, which also serves to secure the waistcoat tightly to the torso. The sliding hook is an advantage if, for example, you are foiling in a twisted foot position. However, the hook is not automatically re-centred after unhooking, as is sometimes standard with other wing harnesses using small elastic bands. Overall, the hook position on the Shield waistcoat is rather high - which has the advantage that you don't damage the board with the hook when getting on the board. The plastic plate on the back distributes the forces well - not like a windsurf or kite harness, but absolutely sufficient for the lower tensile forces when wingfoiling.
ProLimit Shield Vest - the conclusion
The ProLimit Shield waistcoat impresses with good protection on the torso, while still offering very good freedom of movement. The waistcoat also works perfectly as a harness, with only a few details such as the position of the zip and the lack of an attachment point for a leash appearing less than fully developed.
Impact protection + harness; freedom of movement
Position of the zip fastener; hook is not centred
No attachment for the leash
