The well-equipped Goya Scion X sets no limits for windsurfing kids. However, we did discover some minor limitations during the test.

With the Scion X model, manufacturer Goya offers a children's and youth sail that sets the standard in terms of features.

On land

Goya offers the Scion X children's sail as a set with sail, mast and boom, optionally with a cheaper epoxy mast (set price 780 euros) or, from a size of 2.75 square metres, as a set with a carbon mast (50% carbon; set price from 893 euros). Only the size of the Scion X is reminiscent of a children's sail, otherwise it gives the impression of an adult sail with first-class equipment: it is made of noble and robust grid material, the stress zone in the lower leech is thickly dimensioned. Carbon fibres run from the outhaul towards the top of the sail, which are designed to preserve the profile in the long term. The mast protector also leaves nothing to be desired, with a marking point in the sail top to help set the correct downhaul rope tension. Goya offers the Scion X 2.5 as a set, with an inexpensive epoxy mast (set price 780 euros). As the set was not available at the time of testing, we tested the sail with comparable components from other children's rigs.

On the water

The Goya Scion X has a flawless profile, just as you would expect from a full-fledged sail for the big ones. In light winds, it can be deliberately trimmed bulbous, creating a beautiful profile that provides excellent propulsion. The Scion X also takes pumping pulls well and converts them 1:1 into speed; if strong gusts occur, the sail top starts to twist and excess steam is released. The result is very good control in strong winds, disruptive load changes and pressure point shifting are not an issue with the Goya Scion X. With its high-cut lower leech, the rig also offers plenty of space for manoeuvres, sailing tricks and initial excursions into the waves. Keyword "wave": in view of the workmanship and the materials used, you can take the Goya sail to any surf spot in the world without batting an eyelid.

Goya Scion X - the conclusion

The Goya Scion X is an absolutely high-quality sail for all kids who are already at the beginner stage and want to go planing, jumping or even into the surf. The sail also works perfectly in the hands of beginners, but it is almost a bit too good for light winds.
