Stable and well-damped, this true freerider from Sailloft is in the hands of every pleasure surfer looking for an uncomplicated, easy-to-ride sail. With plenty of grid material, a well-protecting protector and a mast sleeve made of thick fabric, the candidate from the loft in Hamburg is robust. Even without much physical effort, the Cross glides off harmoniously and can then be pulled down nicely onto the deck for relaxed cruising. Rigged on a 460 RDM, the sail impresses with sufficient stiffness yet a damped ride and covers a really large wind range in one trim for a six-batten sail.
The HR (high-ratio) version, which has a boom that is shorter in relation to the mast length, also proves to be very manoeuvre-friendly in this group due to its compactness. At the same time, however, it always offers a throttle pedal that can be controlled via the rear hand in the entire wind range due to the centre of effort being further back. The Cross is therefore in the top group in every wind range and has a great average overall, even if it just can't keep up with the top players in this group in terms of absolute top speed. The solid draft can be utilised positively up to the middle wind range. In the upper wind range, when you really power into a gust, the competition with seven battens and an even more pre-shaped profile sometimes offers a little more control. On the other hand, the Cross impresses with its almost freemove-like handling and even invites you to perform manoeuvres such as duck jibes or 360s thanks to the short boom. It pulls powerfully through classic power jibes, grinds pleasantly and the battens rotate - albeit noticeably - cleanly around the mast. Even intermediate riders who are not yet absolutely confident planing should feel comfortable at the helm of the Cross, as it is easy to surf and unfolds in all areas even with a relatively passive riding style.
