NeilPryde had taken quite a long time with the release of the first Wing model Fly, which was then available in the Test but are definitely convincing. Nevertheless, two new models are in the starting blocks for the 2024 season - the Fly II and the Fly II Pro.
NeilPryde Fly II - new sizes, new features
Based on the first version of the all-round wing, numerous aspects have been revised: Instead of 14 sizes, the new Fly II is now available in 12 sizes (1.8/2.4/3.0/3.5/4.0/4.3/4.7/5.0/5.4/5.7/6.0 and 6.7 m²) and in two colour variants. According to the makers, they have primarily worked on "creating a firmer base frame and optimising the twist of the profile so that the wing remains easier to control in stronger winds." This is also to be achieved by using a stiffer Dacron material. Last but not least, the position of the windows has also been revised to create a larger viewing corridor to leeward. Despite all the changes, some aspects of the wing remain unchanged: The front tube and centre strut are ventilated separately via SUP valves, and the protruding fixed handles are designed to ensure easy gripping and direct power transmission in manoeuvres.
Fly II Pro - lighter & stiffer
In addition to the Fly II, there is also the Fly II Pro. This has undergone the same design changes as the Fly II, but is made from different materials. The tubes here are made from aAluula Aeris X This material is said to be particularly rigid. Due to the higher strength of the fabric, the diameter of the front tube can be significantly reduced, which in turn should save material and ultimately weight. The Pro version in the 5.0 square metre size will be around 400 grams lighter than the standard version at around 2.5 kilos. Further advantages of the thinner leading edge should also be a higher top speed and more agile handling during rotations. For the handle system, NeilPryde relies entirely on the tried and tested fixed handles - in the Fly II Pro these are made of carbon. The Performance-Wing Fly II Pro will be available in sizes 3.5/4.0/4.5/5.0/5.5/6.0 and 6.5 square metres and also in two colour variants.
