Five freerace boards face the 2024 test.
In surf 4/2024, five popular freerace boards compete against each other. In addition to the test report, you will find further technical data, details and a detailed video presentation of the boards tested below.

Shape assessment

Almost all freerace boards glide on an underwater hull with a slight to distinct "V", which is sometimes complemented by a double concave. The V is measured on one side of the rail, while the ruler lies flat on the other side. Due to the fact that the boards are wider at 100 cm from the tail than at 33 cm from the tail, a larger measurement at 100 cm does not necessarily mean more angle in the V. We will record this additionally in future measurements.

Duotone Jag 110 (235 x 70)

The Jag 110 features striking, two-stage cut-outs at the tail. The volume is distributed quite evenly over the length, the rails in the tail are "boxy". A fin is not included, Duotone recommends either a Duotone fin with comfortable riding characteristics or the somewhat more demanding, but very fast (tested by us) 37 mm carbon fin from Finish.

Duotone Jag

Goya Bolt 109 (234 x 68)

The Goya Bolt also relies on optical tuning for the cut-outs, one part is only painted. The gliding surface is designed as a comparatively pronounced V with a clear double concave. The V and double concave are particularly pronounced in the bow, but this does not detract from the crisp ride feel. The deck is kept quite flat towards the bow with a very slight drop in the area of the mast track.

  • Shape at 33 cm from tail: flat V, 9.5 mm, slightly double concave
  • Shape at 100 cm from tail: flat V, 15 mm, clearly double concave

Goya Bolt

JP-Australia Supersport 111 (234.5 x 70)

JP has given the Supersport a 40-centimetre fin - slightly above the group average. The deck is quite domed at the tail, which also ensures good stability in the inside positions of the foot straps. The surface of the pads looks a little "rubbery" on land, but offers very good slip resistance on the water.

  • Shape at 100 cm from tail: V with very low double concave, 13 mm

JP-Australia Supersport

Starboard Futura (230 x 71)

Starboard has given the Futura very distinctive cut-outs, particularly thick foot pads and Torx screws throughout. The straps are particularly well labelled for width adjustment. In the area of the - very short - mast track, the board is very thinned out, while the narrow tail is highly inflated with plenty of volume.

  • Shape at 100 cm from tail: slight double concave with strong V, 15 mm

Starboard Futura

Tabou Rocket Plus 113 (238 x 73)

Tabou relies less on spectacular shape features. The cut-outs are not oversized, the V and the double concaves appear very moderate at the back of the board. The volume is distributed quite evenly without any significant thinning of the nose section. The pads are thin and firm, which makes for a firm feeling under the heels, one advantage of the thin pads is that large feet do not feel the edge on the heel uncomfortably. The rear part of the sliding surface has a shiny polished finish.

  • Shape at 100 cm from tail: slight double concave with slight V, 6 mm
