Although the second stage of the cut-outs at the tail is only painted on - as a purely visual tuning measure, like attached exhaust trims - the Goya has a surprisingly sporty, pithy feel on the water. The distinct "V" in the front underwater hull with the strong double concave does little to detract from this crisp feeling underfoot. In the area under the straps, the board glides on a flat, minimal double concave, which obviously filters out little information about the water surface.
The bolt reacts to every impulse - and to every cable wave
After a fluid planing with good acceleration, the light-footed board feels very direct. This ensures very good speed even in medium planing winds, with a subjectively very sporty and fast feeling. In conditions where a JP Supersport could appear flat, solid and almost too cosy, the Bolt reacts to every toe impulse - but also much more strongly to every chop. The board has to be actively kept on course - and on the water in strong winds.
An active riding style is required on the blue deck, which is kept quite flat towards the bow and only has a very slight drop in the mast track area; the board is most fun to ride in moderately choppy water. It then feels small and light underfoot and keeps up well with its wider competitors at speed. It can be tipped into the jibe with the least amount of pressure, then carves with a lot of speed in smooth water and enables all conceivable radii if you consciously steer the board in the turn. When turning mindlessly into the chop, the board finds its way through the Tauern tunnel like an ancient satnav. The fin supplied looks classy, but requires a little more sensitive loading in the lowest planing area. The high-quality construction with carbon-PVC sandwich in the deck laminate ensures rigidity and a very low weight - 6.58 kilograms is top in this group.
Goya Bolt - the conclusion
Very sporty looking board for surfers with good riding skills. Also great in jibes with good technique. More suitable for surfers who are not permanently surfing at the upper limit (wind strength, choppy water).
