The thin, wide RRD Firemove combines good upwind performance with a good dose of sporty feeling. The small flounder is particularly fun in the jibes.

As manoeuvrable as a Fiat Panda in an Italian mountain village, the RRD Firemove meanders through the jibes: nimble, agile and with the smallest turning circle. With a volume of just 105 litres and a very narrow tail, tight turns are controlled and stable with low foot pressure - even at high entry speeds and in choppy water. The board sets up a little steeper, and jibes that are carved wide also usually end in a medium radius. However, the Firemove carries a lot of speed through the turn and was a lot of fun during the manoeuvring session.

The board also impresses on the straights with a sporty, free feeling - especially with the straps mounted on the outside. Then it can be flown quite freely, with the rear foot positioned far out, very large feet already on the edge of the footpad. The inside position, on the other hand, is very comfortable on the narrow and rounded tail. With straps on the inside, the board flies a little lower and follows waves more up and down, with some good acoustic feedback when a steep choppy wave runs through the course: The V-shape without deep concaves then provides very direct water contact. Nevertheless, the board is easy to control and gives a safe feeling.

Although the dimensions of the RRD are out of line, the wide, thin board fits well into the group. When bobbing and tacking, it is particularly stable in the water, where the large width has a greater effect than the comparatively low volume. Even with a surfer weight of 85 kilos, you are still stable and dry, and the deck offers a particularly large, flat standing area at the front. The Firemove planes very well even with a moderate sail draft - and also effortlessly through wind holes with little drag - and impresses in light to medium winds with a high average speed. It is only in top speed duels that some of the very race-orientated freeride boards are able to take it up a notch and pull away.

RRD Firemove - the conclusion

A very fast board, especially in light to medium winds, with plenty of potential for medium and tight jibes. Good climbing ability and a good dose of sporty feeling are successfully combined in this shape.
