The Quatro Pyramid is a weapon for exquisite wave days. Read our big waveboard test to find out whether the board also hits the mark on the North and Baltic Seas.

The Hawaiian manufacturer Quatro has, in addition to the Cube models we have already tested (HERE is a test) and Power (Test) also has the Pyramid in its programme. We tested whether this is also an option in "normal" conditions on the North Sea and Baltic Sea.

On land:

Compared to Quatro's all-round model, the Cube, the Pyramid is significantly longer. The outline also appears more rounded, as the board is quite wide in the centre, but quite narrow in the nose and tail area. The rocker line in the tail is rounded, the Pyramid has significantly more rocker than many other boards in the test group and also than its sister model, the Cube. A striking feature is the strong "V", i.e. an implied keel that extends far into the tail area and is also intended to enable particularly fast rail-to-rail edging. The tail has also been visibly thinned out to support maximum turning characteristics. The straps and pads are grippy and comfortable, and the strap is double-bolted at the rear to prevent twisting.

On the water:

You can tell that the Pyramid has been optimised for powerful waves when riding out through the surf: The slightly angled side fins produce minimal drag, the generous rocker does the rest to get the board up to speed, but certainly not to win any early planing trophies. Once powered up, however, the Quatro runs quickly and sufficiently freely through the chop, remaining much easier to control than some of its predecessors in the past. The Pyramid then feels really comfortable on the wave: it is easy to place on the rail and can be turned wonderfully variably through all radii from wide to extremely tight. However, a certain amount of riding skill is required to get the full potential out of the shape. If you stand upright and unsure on deck, the board will park earlier in front of unpressurised waves. If you load the board consistently and with a template, the Quatro Pyramid carves turns like a hot knife through butter and offers the necessary potential to conjure up slid cutbacks or 360s on wave faces.

Quatro Pyramid 87 - the conclusion:

The better the conditions and rider, the better the Pyramid. It is a force in powerful creamy waves, but on normal days on the North and Baltic Seas, the more planing Cube offers greater all-round suitability.
