Flymount specialises in mounts for action cams. With the Flymount Aero Mount, there is also a model for wingsurfers. We have tried it out.

Onboard perspectives can be extremely exciting, and this also applies to wingfoiling. Unfortunately, unlike other sports such as biking or windsurfing, there is hardly anywhere on the wing where you can mount an action cam securely and safely. Wings with boom systems do offer the option of mounting the camera securely with the familiar mounts, but even in wide-angle mode, the cam is usually not far enough away to take pictures of the board, wing and person. It is precisely for this reason that manufacturer Flymount has developed the Aero Mount, which allows GoPro & Co to be attached to the front tube of the wing. The mount is made of glass fibre reinforced plastic and weighs just 140 grams. It is very easy to use; the clamp is fixed in the area of the wingtip using an adjusting screw.

The adjustment range of the mount is between 80 and 130 millimetres in diameter, which means you automatically end up in the wingtip area on most wings. The Flymount Aero works ideally with wings that have a visible kink in the front tube - the clamp cannot naturally slip backwards over this. In the test, the mount remained reliably in place even after a few heavy impacts. In our opinion, mounting on wings with a rather straight front tube in the area of the wing tips is problematic. Here you run the risk of the mount shaking loose and slipping backwards over the thinning wingtip. For such cases, the Flymount Aero is equipped with a thin safety rope, which can be attached to a handle on the strut or front tube.

The weight of the mount and a GoPro Hero 9 used feels very limited, and is most noticeable when carrying the wing to the water and drifting the wing in the wave. However, the mount hardly interferes with normal riding, but when pumping up, the cam and board sometimes come close together, especially when pumping up.

And the perspectives? Mounted on the wingtip, you always have enough distance between the cam and the photo subject and can look forward to exciting video and photo perspectives. Here are a few impressions:

Flymount Aero - the bottom line:

The Flymount Aero costs 74.95 euros and is the first practical way to find really good onboard perspectives with an action cam or 360° cameras when wingsurfing.
