Even the outward journey from Chur into the gorge to Versam is a feast for the eyes. The Upper Rhine offers challenging paddling for stand-up paddlers from Ilanz to Versam (WW II-III). Our suggested tour is a little easier, with spectacular scenery and a good introduction for WW novices and experts. The great thing about the tour: every hour, the railway runs from Reichenau (exit after the first bridge at the canoe school site; 15-minute walk to the station) back to Versam station. There is a café and a canoe school with friendly, helpful staff. The school also offers SUP guiding.
Approach:From Bregenz on the Swiss motorway to Chur. Take the Tamins exit, continue via Bonaduz and Versam into the gorge to Versam railway station. Camping: Camping Carrera (www.camping-carrera.ch)Tip:B&B Linx Beizli, telephone +4-/81-6451191.SUP info: www.kanuschule.ch
