From Monday 3 June, Lidl will be selling SUP accessories, including the electric SUP pump from Crivit. It is one of the cheapest. We have thoroughly tested the model for operation from a car socket (cigarette lighter).

General information on electric SUP pumps

With electric SUP pumps, a basic distinction is made between models with and without a battery. The battery makes a significant difference in terms of weight and price.

Advantages of SUP pumps with battery:

  • Can be used anywhere
  • Quickly ready for use on site without cable clutter

Advantages of SUP pumps without battery:

  • More favourable
  • Lighter
  • Ready for use at any time
  • No battery fatigue

There are also models with a compressor only and those with a blower and compressor in one housing. In models with a compressor and blower, the board is first filled with air very quickly with a high air flow (about one minute) and then the device switches to the compressor for high pressure.

Appliances without a blower function require significantly longer in the first phase for unpressurised filling.
All electric pumps can cause considerable noise. By inflating at the car park, possibly even with the pump in the car with the door ajar, unnecessary nuisance can be reduced. At some beach access points, use is already expressly prohibited.

Test report SUP pump from Lidl

The SUP pump from Lidl is a device without a battery for connecting to the car's cigarette lighter. The pump works in two stages with a blower and compressor. The connection cable is sufficiently long at three metres and the pressure hose (0.7 metres) is of normal size. Several adapters also make it possible to inflate other items such as air beds. The pump is designed to reach a maximum pressure of 20 psi.

In the test, the pump starts with a blower that is perceived to be quite high-pitched and takes a comparatively long 2:30 minutes to fill the board with air. The pump then automatically switches to compressor mode with a sonorous humming noise. After a total of 11:15 minutes, the pre-set pressure of 15 psi is reached and the device switches off automatically. Pleasant: The pump does not heat up excessively, even when pumping up to 20 psi.

Conclusion: an averagely loud, not particularly fast pump without battery operation at a comparatively favourable price, which can also refuel SUP boards with very high pressure.

Test results of the Crivit SUP pump CSP 12 A1:

  • Inflation up to 15 psi (Reference boards 12'6" x 30") 11:15 minutes
  • Maximum achievable pressure (measured): 19 psi
  • Volume (measured at a distance of 1 metre): 67/73 dB (blower/compressor)
  • Subjectively perceived noise: rather shrill, whistling fan, normal, sonorous, humming compressor noise; both as usual: loud, annoying
  • Number of boards per battery charge: Without battery
  • Accessories: Connection to cigarette lighter, connection to 220 volts

From Monday 3 June, the SUP pump from Crivit will be available in Lidl shops for 39.99. The regular price in the Lidl online shop is 47.99 (not continuously available)
