Waveboard test 2023: The Fanatic Grip 87 in the individual evaluation with all strengths and weaknesses

Completely revised, with a wider tail, more rocker and a trim that has been shifted backwards, the Grip enters the new season. You quickly find your way into the double-bolted, very comfortable straps, as the board glides quickly, accelerates lively and achieves a freer glide than the previous model - good conditions for jumping. In rough conditions, however, the grip with the rather small centre fins needs to be ridden a little more sensitively.

The Fanatic reveals its full potential on the wave, hardly any other board can be edged so effortlessly rail-to-rail and steered variably through all radii. You can turn cutbacks on the disc and press the tail into takas or lipslides in a controlled manner. It doesn't matter whether you're slashing short, fast hooks into the Baltic Sea chop or throwing yourself into the bottom turn in front of a mast-high set wave - the Grip feels at home everywhere, is now noticeably more manoeuvrable than before and therefore sets no limits, especially for ambitious wave riders. The Fanatic Grip 87 is available at Online surf shop available .

surf conclusion: The Fanatic Grip has been given an extra dose of radicality without noticeably reducing performance. If you are mainly chopping through the chop in strong winds, you should orientate yourself towards the Fanatic Mamba.
