The competitors were greeted by very light southerly winds this morning, but with a little bit of swell left, the wave contest remained on standby until early afternoon, but unfortunately the conditions remained marginal.
As there were also no further competitions in the slalom on the last day in Sylt, this means that Amado Vrieswijk was able to successfully defend his title from last year, moving the man from Bonaire up to 4th place in the overall standings.
At the same time, Waverin Marine Hunter from France leaves the island of Sylt with her first World Cup victory in the bag. Maria Behrens from Lübeck returns home with a sensational second place.
Influence on the overall world rankings
Nothing has changed in the overall world rankings for men and women in the wave discipline. Sarah-Quita Offringa and Ricardo Campello continue to lead the rankings and will therefore go into the last event of the year in Maui in October in the top spot. Maciek Rutkowski continues to lead the men's slalom, but is now joined at the top of the rankings by Matteo Iachino with 30,300 points after the Italian finished second.
Pierre Mortefon and Johan Søe are only a further 100 points behind, so the decision on the world title in Japan promises to be an exciting affair. Amado Vrieswijk also still has an outside chance of winning the title with 30,000 points.
Wet but cheerful award ceremony
Unfortunately, the weather didn't really play ball at the official award ceremony this afternoon, but there were still plenty of spectators on site to witness the crowning of the respective event champions of the schauinsland-reisen Windsurf World Cup Sylt, presented by got2b. In addition, Yentel Caers was officially crowned freestyle world champion for the second time in his career on Sylt.
The 17-year-old Takumi Moriya was also honoured with the Youth Freestyle World Champion title - after finishing an outstanding fourteenth in the men's category in his first year on the tour.
Then the packing began immediately. Completely soaked, the riders dragged their equipment from the beach and packed their cars or boardbags. Ten days of the World Cup Sylt are over and we are already looking forward to next year.
