World Cup Pozo: Triumph of the teenagers - MacDonald and Suardiaz win

The final day of the Wingfoil World Cup Pozo saw a showdown in the freestyle discipline. The women's level is also steadily rising. Standard tricks such as 360s are no longer going to win you a flower pot this year, the top riders have long been showing front and back flips here too. In winds of around 40 knots, all the ladies relied on the smallest wings of around two square metres. In the first semi-final, Orane Ceris, who lives in New Caledonia, and Bowien van der Linden, two experienced riders, faced each other. Both showed solid jumps, but in the end a high back flip from Ceris (8.53 points) swung the pendulum in her favour. In the final, she had to deal with a teenager - the still only 16-year-old Nia Suardiaz managed to get revenge for losing the Big Air final ( HERE you can read the report) against Agata Blach from Poland.

Suardiaz was immediately under pressure in the final. She crashed her first jump and Ceris gratefully accepted the invitation with a back flip (8.77 points). Suardiaz had to shake herself briefly, but got back on track. She performed the next backflip cleanly and then the knot was broken. This was followed by a frontside 360 and a clean backloop, to which Ceris had no answer. Suardiaz remains the measure of all things and leads both the Surf Freestyle and FreeFly Slalom rankings.

MacDonald unbeatable, May finishes fourth

The day before, Benjamin May had probably had the best day of his young wingfoil career with a 2nd place in the Big Air and his victory against world champion Malo Guénolé in the Surf Freestyle. Now he faced 15-year-old Frenchman Axel Gerard in the semi-finals. Once again, May showed his trademark front flips at dizzying heights - but Gerard was simply too good in this heat with a back flip frontside 360 and a frontside 1080.

In the second semi-final, US prodigy Chris MacDonald prevailed against Frenchman Alan Fedit. The final then turned into a MacDonald show. Although Gerard performed the full programme, MacDonald rode what was probably the best heat of his life: he performed all seven tricks: he opened with a combination move (8.70 points), followed by front flip frontside 360 (9.17), frontside 1080 (9.87), back flip frontside 360 (8.83) and 9.97 for the first triple combination ever performed. In the end, he had 29.01 out of a possible 30 points on the scoresheet.
