The Sport Vibrations SV-Wing comes complete with bag, leash and pump for 725 euros. We tested whether the wing is competitive on the water or whether you have to make compromises here.

Sport Vibrations is the official SUP importer for Mistral in Germany and Austria. The sales portfolio also includes material from the windsurfing and wingfoil sector. The SV-Wing is available in two sizes, 3.7 and 5.0 square metres, and is designed as an all-round wing for beginners and advanced wing surfers.

On land:

Our test size of 5.0 square metres comes as a very attractive package - the scope of delivery includes a bag, a suitable pump and a leash. The Wing is inflated to a maximum of 6 psi via a SUP valve. Deflating takes a comparatively long time as there is no additional deflation valve on the centre tube. The front tube of this wing is comparatively thin, so the recommended maximum pressure should be utilised to the full. Instead of the usual single front handle, there are two additional handles offset to the side and transfer handles between the centre groove and front tube. The handle system is based on several narrow handles. These ensure direct contact with the wing, but restrict the lateral movement of the hands somewhat. The Sport Vibrations SV-Wing has a comparatively large window, which allows a good all-round view.

On the water:

The very soft basic characteristics of the wing are already noticeable during the start-up phase. Even when inflated to maximum pressure (6 psi), the Sport Vibrations SV-Wing is so soft that the wingtips fold up when pumping hard and the pumping energy unfortunately dissipates almost ineffectively. In our experience, this is due to the too thinly dimensioned front tube, which makes efficient pumping on wingfoil boards virtually impossible.

The SV-Wing only gets up to speed with a significantly stronger ground wind. The Wing then offers a lot of damping, but in strong gusts the control suffers again from the spongy base frame. Even though the wing is not a lightweight, it can still be steered precisely in manoeuvres, as the firm handles transmit steering impulses directly. Even when riding small chops or swells, the SV-Wing is pleasantly neutral and drifts along nicely.

The Wing works slightly better as a light wind motor for windsurfing longboards or SUPs (without foil) - here the weak points are less noticeable and you can relax and enjoy the ride.

Sport Vibrations SV-Wing - the conclusion:

Unfortunately, even the very attractive price of the Sport Vibrations SV-Wing cannot compensate for the fact that the wing is simply not competitive for wingfoiling due to its design flaws. As a drive for SUP in light winds the Wing is a reasonable alternative.
