Surf recommendation: The Rocket literally accompanies you through a long surfing career. From the ascent into the planing league to the point where you might want to get a taste of race slalom, the Tabou offers a successful mix of performance and manoeuvrability. Only very light surfers might prefer a more playful board.

On land: At 250 x 72 cm, the Tabou has the standard dimensions of the group. The pads on the deck are very large, so that you are already comfortable when planing. The strap positions are well suited for freeride and freerace, there is no centre position. The mini wingers (side notches) at the tail are a nice visual gimmick and make for a slightly narrower tail. The deck shape is quite domed (curved) in the area of the rear strap, which ensures a comfortable stance. The deep double concave at the front of the planing surface has become a dominant Rocket feature.

On the water: For years, the Tabou has represented the prototype of the super easy to control, planing freeride board. In the new test comparison, the board continues to offer an extremely successful combination of luxurious riding comfort and the best performance in the lower and medium wind range - which can also be easily tickled out by intermediate riders. Similar to the Lorch Breeze, the transition from bobbing to full planing is achieved with minimal resistance - leisurely but unstoppable. The deep double concave ensures a smooth water position even at top speed in rough water conditions. Only when freeracers with high riding skills and fast sails put the spurs to it does the board reach its speed limit slightly sooner than the fastest boards. For most surfers, however, the good average speed in the medium wind range should be more of an advantage. And the fun really starts at the end of the speed run, because the Rocket rushes through the jibe chicane just as easily as it glides. Very tight turns require a lot of pressure and are limited at some point, but the built-in turns are more than sufficient for this board class 90 per cent of the time and are buttery smooth and grippy at the same time. You finally want to glide through the power jibe at full speed - here you go.
