Tabou Magic Carpet - Hybrid board for wind and wingsurfers
Tabou Magic Carpet
With the new Magic Carpet model, Tabou is launching a hybrid concept that is suitable for wingfoiling, SUPfoiling and, of course, as a windsurfing foil board. We asked marketing man Konstantin Weier what it's all about.

Konstantin, what is the idea behind concepts like the Magic Carpet?

The idea of building such a board came from the wing trend. At the same time, SUP foiling and of course windsurf foiling are also becoming increasingly popular, so it made sense to design a board that can do all of this. It's for people who simply want to get out on the water as much as possible, regardless of the discipline. The transitions between sports are fluid anyway and there are people who simply want to have fun on the water as often as possible, regardless of the discipline or sport.

What driving level should you have to be able to use the Magic Carpet at all?

The board is available with 110 and 120 litres. Of course, this means that water sports enthusiasts who are just learning to SUP in the waves are excluded. You should already be able to SUP safely in waves and catch waves. The Magic Carpet is rather large for wingfoiling and you can practise your first flights and jibing manoeuvres on it. However, the board is a little too big for tricks and jumps.

And for wind foiling?

For wind foiling, the concept primarily appeals to beginners to foiling and less performance-oriented foilers who otherwise windsurf safely on 120-litre boards. The Magic Carpet can be used with or without loops and is ideal for small and medium-sized sails up to 6.5 square metres without camber.

Which foil types do you recommend for the board?

Typical freeride foils such as our Hybrid Foil and the Mach 1 Foil are ideal, i.e. wings that are not too extreme. This allows you to start flying early and you can also get on the water early with small wings. In terms of mounting systems, the Magic Carpet offers both options - you can mount foils for the deep tuttle box as well as those for the double rail.

The board should be suitable for three foil disciplines - windfoiling, SUPfoiling and with the wing. Are there wings that are suitable for all three disciplines?

Wings for SUP foiling and wingsurfing are generally somewhat thicker and more buoyant than foils for windsurfing. However, there are compromises that make everything possible, e.g. our Mach 1 wing.

In which design is the Magic Carpet available and in which sizes?

The Magic Carpet is available in our robust MTE design and will be available in two sizes, with 110 and 120 litres and widths of 73 and 78 centimetres respectively. The retail price will be 1700 euros.
