At 56.7 centimetres, the Quatro Cube 82 we tested (surf measurement: 6.35 kilos) is quite narrow in comparison. Nevertheless, the model, which is available in six sizes, is supposed to be an all-rounder. The outline appears stretched, with four slotbox fins in the diamond tail. The pleasantly soft straps are double-bolted, at least at the rear.
The Quatro Cube 82 on the water:
Anyone expecting a tippy, slippery board in view of the narrow width will be pleasantly surprised with the first tight turn: the Cube 82 pulls away powerfully and without a noticeable glide threshold. A few years ago, the Cube with its full, rail-like water position was trimmed for maximum control, but the picture has changed fundamentally. The Cube is now an agile, lively board. Control remains in the green zone even in rough conditions, but the shape is no longer an absolute control miracle. But as soon as you put the board on the edge, it's back: that great edge grip that you remember from days gone by.
If you ride waves with the front foot in front, you can make turns like a hot knife through butter. The turning potential is also at a high level, although the Cube is less fond of wild hooks over the back foot, preferring instead to carve over the entire edge at speed. The Quatro also carries the speed surprisingly well through the turn, which results in plenty of potential for wave moves and powerfully carved turns.
Surf summary of the Quatro Cube 82
The Cube 82 impresses with surprisingly good gliding characteristics, a sporty ride and cleanly carved turns. Thanks to its balanced characteristics, it scores just as well in Ho'okipa as at the local Baltic spot.
