Windsurfing spot of the month - Wulfener Hals on Fehmarn
Up-and-coming spot of the month - Wulfener Hals on Fehmarn
The Wulfener Hals on Fehmarn is not at all an insider tip - and for good reason. We introduce you to one of the top spots for intermediates

Fehmarn - one of northern Germany's hotspots! The Baltic Sea island is probably known as one of the windiest and sunniest spots in Germany, but Wulfener Hals in particular offers ideal conditions for everyone from beginners and intermediates to freeriders and freestyle pros.

The best time to travel is probably in spring and autumn, when you have the best combination of many windy days and pleasant water temperatures. However, a warm wetsuit and neoprene shoes should always be in your luggage; in the summer months, a shorty can also be sufficient - the water temperatures can then reach a good 19°C.

Wind & weather: The Wulfener Hals offers the advantage that - apart from rare northerly winds - all wind directions are possible. The south-westerly and westerly winds associated with low-pressure areas are certainly the most common. Especially in spring, however, long-lasting easterly winds often establish themselves, which not only bring beautiful weather, but also thermally strengthen the wind - the temperature difference between the still cool water and the warmed air over land acts as a motor here.

The advert: The largest campsite on the island of Fehmarn, theWulfener Halsis located on a headland. This separates the open Baltic Sea from Burger Binnensee. You can surf on both sides of the headland: regattas are held on the south side, while the area on the Burger Binnensee is ideal for beginners and intermediates as well as freeriders and freestylers. You can stand almost anywhere here; a choppy wave only forms in strong winds. Especially SE to E and NW winds are a dream here. However, all other wind directions are also very rideable. Everyone - from complete beginners to intermediates and freeriders - will find their happiness on the water here in any wind direction. If you are not staying at the campsite, you can park in one of the many day car parks in front of the campsite gates or on the surf meadow (opposite the golf course) - for a fee during the season. You can only access the open Baltic Sea via the campsite, or by starting on the Burger Binnensee, driving to the headland and then carrying your equipment the few metres to the other side.
