The participants showed considerable talent and delivered an exciting, tough competition. All 15 planned races were held, plus additional events such as the training regatta and a fun race. When the athletes return to their home countries, they will not only take medals with them, but also memories of a remarkable competition against the beautiful backdrop of Hungary.
Outstanding performance by the Greek Danai Anagnostou
Among the standout performances was Greece's Danai Anagnostou, who dominated the U17 girls' category, winning 9 out of 15 races and securing the world title. Anagnostou put her success down to her versatility in different wind conditions and her strong starts: "I think it was the wind variations that made me perform so well. I feel comfortable in all wind conditions, which change daily here at Lake Balaton. I managed a very good start so that I had an advantage right away," reports the new world champion from Greece.
Anagnostou also emphasised the hard training and passion that characterises Greek windsurfers: "The Greeks are so good in this category because they train very hard, are passionate about windsurfing and Greece is also known for its fantastic winds for training. Last year I came second at the T293 Worlds in France; this time I was determined to come first. I gave my best every day and the hard work paid off."
Greek dominance and Spanish excellence
Overall, the championship was characterised by remarkable performances, especially from the Greek and Spanish participants. In the U17 boys' category, Greece celebrated a complete podium victory. Spain also showed its skills with complete podium finishes in the U15 girls and in the overall U13 category.
Demonstration of sportiness
The evening awards ceremony was a roaring celebration, with the medallists joyfully carried on the shoulders of their friends and coaches. The loudest applause was reserved for Hungarian U19 bronze medallist Bori Bósza, who was dramatically carried on a surfboard by her teammates.
With strong performances and a spirited demonstration of sportsmanship, the event will be remembered for many years to come.
