The organisers Leon Delle and Oliver-Tom Schliemann, who created the "Racer/Winger of the Sea" format, report a successful weekend:
"Ten participants from all over Germany found their way to the beautiful campsite in Hemmelmark in the Bay of Eckernförde. After arriving and having dinner together on Friday, Lina Erpenstein was on hand to answer the participants' questions. The current fourth in the world rankings talked about her career, windsurfing competitions and her career as a windsurfer, accompanied by pictures and videos. The participants were able to ask all their questions on the first day and gain an insight into the life of a professional windsurfer.
Saturday started for the participants with a professional yoga session led by Christine Hahn on the meadow in the tent, where relaxing exercises helped to dispel any tiredness. Afterwards, they had breakfast together and made plans for the day. In bright sunshine and a light wind, the decision was made to devote ourselves to foiling. First in the form of a theory lesson with foiling expert Leon Delle and then in practice with the help of the motorboat. This gave all participants the opportunity to gain their first minutes of flying time with wake foiling. To round off the foiling topic, start coach Lina Erpenstein gave an insight into the sport of wing foiling and whetted the participants' appetite for more.
Foiling, freestyle and a windsurfing film
The wind picked up in the afternoon and was used for the first foil tests with windsurfing equipment. Well equipped with a wide range of test material from Starboard and Severne, a few participants were able to foil their first metres. At the same time, there were practical lessons in light wind freestyle, where the first helitacks and duckjibes could be practised. The day was rounded off in the evening with a BBQ and an evening at the cinema. The film "Cabeibusha" about the life of Sarah-Quita Offringa was shown.
The weather forecast for Sunday promised to be a complete success. After another yoga session on the beach and a healthy breakfast, all the participants took to the water together. Some practised their first freestyle tricks and others continued to practise foiling and achieved considerable success. Smilla, who is only ten years old, stood out in particular, completing her first metres "flying" over the water and clearly having fun in the process. The day was rounded off with a raffle, so that all participants not only went home happy, but also richly endowed thanks to the sponsors SOMWR, Starboard and Severne, as well as Westhof Bio."
There will be another SOMWR x Racer of the Sea Girls Camp next year. All information and pictures can be found on Instagram at @racerofthesea or under www.racerofthesea.de
