422 participants at the European Junior Championships, more than 200 at the last World Championships: iQFoil is booming worldwide. Shortly before the 2024 Olympic premiere in Paris, it is clear that the new foil material was the right choice. If Germany's most promising candidate Sebastian Kördel competes for a medal this year, there could be a further boost, and the starting place in the women's event is already secure.
The German Sailing Association (DSV) is offering iQFoil workshops at the Schilksee Olympic Centre to strengthen the next generation of windsurfers in Germany. "If you are between 13 and 23 years old and a member of a DSV club, already have some basic knowledge of windsurfing and would like to try out the new material, the DSV is offering you the opportunity to test the Olympic iQFOiL and the pre-Olympic iQFOiL Youth & Junior material on the water and gain your first experience. Participants will also gain an insight into the competition structures and support opportunities for young talent," says the DSV.
Young talent at iQFoil should be discovered and promoted
The training sessions are organised by DSV windsurfing expert Leon Delle, who also pulls the strings at Racer of the Sea. He says: "With this programme, we want to familiarise water sports enthusiasts with the Olympic iQFOiL class and perhaps ultimately whet their appetite for performance-oriented windsurfing,
The training courses cost 70 euros per person, the hire fee for equipment is 50 euros if required. Accommodation and meals are available in the athletes' house at the national base, but must be organised by the participants themselves.
The dates of the workshops:
- 25 - 26 May
- 31 August - 1 September
