The LT windsurfers met at Lake Starnberg for the German Championships, while the raceboarders competed for the Bavarian Cup. Lasse Brudek and Stefan Tail won.

The organising Windsurfing Club Starnberger See was not the only one to fear "If it's ever going to happen", and some of the 45 participants also got cold feet due to the weather forecast: "Thunderstorms on Saturday, continuous rain on Sunday" was the forecast.

What race officer Niki Beiler then made of it commanded everyone's respect. He allowed the thunderstorm front on the first day to pass to the south of the lake despite the heavy rumble of thunder, and three races were completed. Two with six to eight knots, which was feasible for all starters, and the third, with 20 knots, was too much for some of the racers - the security team went into action.

Lasse Brudek and Thomas Wallner, ex-Olympic participant from Austria, were tied on points ahead of local Harry Schönmüller in the 28 windsurfers. It was clear anyway that the 16 raceboarders from RSCC I with Stefan Hecker, Toni Stadler and Fixl Huber would dominate the "Bavarian Cup".

Warm-up for the European Championships

A delicious barbecue on the terrace of the host FC Seeshaupt, sailing department, brought conviviality among the nations, as six guests from the Netherlands and some Austrians had also landed at Lake Garda for a "warm-up" at the WCST on their way to the European Championships.

The lake was as smooth as glass on Sunday, but only until 10.30 a.m., when the water rippled in a light north-easterly. Sporting director Melly Straub from Yachtclub Seeshaupt (water organiser) laid the buoys with precision, and off we went for another three races with constant winds of 6 to 8 knots. Not much changed in the results, the top trios in both classes remained among themselves.

Host Christian Kenter (President of the FCSS) thanked everyone for the fair competitions, Andrea Meyer (2nd Chairwoman of the WCST) took to the podium and handed out plenty of glass mugs and prizes to the winners. The special prize, a rustic original windsurfer wooden mast base, went to the new windsurfer class champion, Lasse Brudek, who will be looking to defend his title next year at his home event on Lake Banter near Wilhelmshaven.

The highlight of the LT windsurfing season is just around the corner: from 11 to 16 June, over 200 starters will meet for the European Championships on Lake Garda!
