Campervan hire is booming, and even after the pandemic years, demand is still very high. But anyone renting a campervan abroad is faced with the dilemma of how to take their surfing equipment with them when travelling.
Nora and Roman have the perfect solution. They have run the ION Club in Rosas for over 15 years and now offer five motorhomes on the Costa Brava that can be customised with sports equipment. Various packages can be booked. In general, there is windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing and biking equipment on offer. The latest Fanatic boards and Duotone rigs are available for windsurfing. The entry-level package with a board of your choice and two sails costs 55 euros per day. The top version called "Excellence" with two boards and four sails with matching masts and forks costs 85 euros per day.

The motorhomes are Peugeot Boxers, which offer space for two people and three to four boards. The other 4 motorhomes are from the Pössl company (Fiat Ducato and Citroën Jumper) and have been specially converted for surfing equipment. Depending on the size and season, the prices for the vans, which are fully equipped with everything from accessories to towels, range from 95 to 185 euros per night. As a little goodie for surfers, there is also a "Wind- and Kitesurfing Guide Europe" in every van. This means that everyone can choose the right spots in the immediate vicinity or further afield - including in the south of France or Portugal. The Activans can be picked up in the Bay of Roses in northern Spain, but can also be taken to one of the airports in the surrounding area for an additional charge.
"During our trip in the Sabbatical year 2019, we spent five months travelling all over Europe with our fully loaded camper van. We immediately came up with a new business idea that we put into practice in 2020/21: a mobile rental station for windsurfers and a hotel room on wheels. We had never had this flexibility in choosing a surf spot before. We were tied to a fixed location for years," says Nora.
