Croatia is rocky and it gets deep quickly. This is how we knew the Croatian coast from various holidays. For beginner surfers and windfoilers, getting out on the water is often difficult. In our search for a suitable spot for the whole family that offered a large standing area with a sandy bottom and moderate wind, we chose the village of Ljubac. It is nestled in the sea area between the southern part of the island of Pag and northern Dalmatia. There are various bays here that look very promising on the map.
The Ljubac spot itself is located in an elongated bay that opens up to the north-west and is around three kilometres wide. You can start south or north of the small harbour, where you can set up your equipment undisturbed. On the gently sloping beach, children can easily make their first attempts at surfing. There is plenty of space on the water, as there are hardly any charter boats or other vessels on the water.
Parking directly on the beach
There is another starting point in the south-western part of the long bay. You can park your car on the beach there and there is also a large standing area. Only a few kiters flee here from the crowded spot of Nin, which is a 30-minute drive away. There are numerous flats in Ljubac.
The wind strength increased during our stay throughout the day and usually reached a moderate 15 knots or more in the afternoon. Even with Bora the spot is usable, but is somewhat covered by the cape in front of it, behind which it gets quite rough due to the resulting cross seas. If you want, you should try the bay near Ritina further to the east in Bora, as the wind here can develop its power undisturbed from the nearby mountains.
