Between the board and rig, the base plates sometimes lead a somewhat unnoticed existence, but their "work" is indispensable: good base plates ensure direct power transmission and are also essential for safety. Unifber is now launching three new, enhanced models for every need.
The Essentials model is said to offer good value for money and comes with a cast stainless steel U-pin, large diameter bolts and a Spectra safety cable with a breaking load of up to 650 kg. According to the manufacturer, the base plate made of POK plastic is ergonomic and easy to unscrew, while the disc is equipped with an EVA underlayer and a guide knob. "As the number of parts has been reduced to a minimum, the likelihood of a part of the base plate failing is low," promises Unifiber.
Building on this, the HD line also comes with a sandproof push button and stainless steel chord holders. "In this way, all metal parts are connected to each other and form an unbroken chain from the tip of the U-pin to the screw," explains the manufacturer. "Every single part - from the shell itself to the U-pin to the connections - is cast, resulting in one of the strongest, if not the strongest, baseplates available on the market."
Dismantle base plate without tools
The third model in the new range is the "Elite" base plate: "The Elite base plate has inherited the robustness of the HD model while offering more safety and user-friendliness," says the manufacturer. The string can be removed without tools and can therefore be easily checked for damage.

All base plates come with a TPE tendon: "To ensure the lasting strength of the tendon, we subjected it to rigorous testing over a period of 16 months at a windsurfing centre in Egypt. This test environment, known for its extreme temperatures and intense UV exposure, confirmed the exceptional durability of the tendon, as no breakage occurred."
