The Unifibre Elite Base is more than just a base plate. Checking the string for cracks and replacing it is possible within seconds - without tools!

Unifiber has recently launched a completely new base plate line. In addition to a standard and an HD version, the model Elite interesting. At first glance, the Elite Base looks like a conventional base plate, but on closer inspection it has some clever features: the base plate chord can be replaced within a minute - without tools. Simply pull off the orange plastic parts by hand. The securing bolts of the tendon are now exposed. If these are pulled out, both the upper and lower parts can be removed. This also allows you to carry out a quick tendon check to make sure that the part is still in good condition. The reason for this is that mast foot chords usually tear at the pin holes during prolonged use and therefore out of sight - in extreme cases, the board and sail can then separate on the water. In order to check the condition of the mast foot chord, the pins on conventional mast bases usually have to be unscrewed - this step is much easier with the Unifiber Elite.

Here we show you how to carry out the quick check:

But even apart from that, the mast base makes an impeccable and high-quality impression. If you want, you can leave the lower plate permanently attached to the board, eliminating the need to screw and unscrew it. The favourite position of the base plate is also saved. Another positive feature is that the pin and the upper string holder are made from a single piece of stainless steel. A tear-resistant safety strap made of Spectra - the manufacturer Unifiber claims a tensile strength of up to 650 kilos - is designed to keep the board and sail firmly connected in the event of a tendon tear and ensure that you can still reach the shore surfing. Only the weight is average - at a measured 335 grams, the mast base is within the normal range.
