Test 2019: 11 complete trigs for children
For 255 euros, you can get a complete 3.0 children's rig - that's how much just the boom costs with dad. Favourable prices and rig weights - complete from 4.3 kilos - make getting started in the shop and on the water child's play. When will you get started?

Even a small adult rig should feel like at least 30 kilos for a child - if you simply put the weight of the material in relation to the body weight. Even if the rule of thumb is only a rough estimate: for children to really have fun, the smallest wave sail from mum or dad is not enough. At 196 euros, the cheapest children's rig costs about as much as a standard boom for adults - and fun and quick success are guaranteed with such a feather-light little wing.

At around 3.0 to 3.5 square metres, we have chosen somewhat larger sails for the test because the differences are somewhat more obvious than with a 1.5 metre sail, where a batten is usually completely sufficient.

The price pressure on children's sails is high, as you can see from the cost-cutting measures, especially for rigs that are still under or around 300 euros. In addition to a lot of monofilm - which is always quite thick - you will usually only find the most necessary reinforcements.

Savings packages number two and three are the mast and boom. Aluminium masts are also completely acceptable for small children's sails, the sails generally do not have a defined bending curve with "loose leech" in the top, and although aluminium has died out in the classic material segment for masts, it is still a popular choice of material for children's rigs for a good weight/price ratio. In the case of forks, length adjustment is sometimes dispensed with completely or very simple mechanisms are used. Furthermore, not all forks are axially movable in the head piece, which can mean that the fork cannot be attached to the mast without tension, especially in the highest possible position.
