The Torro is one of the absolute freemove classics
The GunSails Torro impresses as a well-balanced all-rounder for flat water to surf waves. Find out in the test whether it also has weaknesses.

The GunSails Torro is already a classic among freemove sails. Up to a size of 5.3 square metres, it is designed as a handy, compact manoeuvring sail. Sizes 5.7 and larger are significantly more powerful and developed primarily for the needs of flat water surfers - with a deeper profile, tube battens and longer boom dimensions.

On land:

In size 4.7, the Torro is rigged on a 400 mast, but thanks to a vario top, a 430 mast would also be possible. The top features the tried-and-tested trim markings Fred which makes it easier to find the right luff tension. In any case, you don't have to worry too much about the right trim on the Torro; tensioned on the boom with a slight pull, the sail already covers a large wind range. The other features such as the mast protector, protection on the battens and the material thickness of the mono film leave nothing to be desired. If you prefer, the Torro is also available in a version made from 70 per cent recycled plastic - called Re-Torro. In terms of quality, this should be in no way inferior to the normal version.

On the water:

The GunSails Torro is perfectly balanced in your hands from the first sheet in. The ideal trim is easy to find, simply trim up to the glued mark on the top and then hook in to the boom with just a little pull. The wind range of this freemove sail is above average, and re-trimming is hardly necessary, as the sail remains manoeuvrable for a very long time even in the bulbous trim. It offers the perfect mix of control and riding stability, which actually suits every board type from freeride to freewave. The holding power is fully within limits, it is not quite as light in the hands as a Naish or Severne when powered up, but it is miles away from being heavy. The agile sail feeling is maintained even in gusts, the top speed is impressive because the Torro develops a lot of power both in wind holes and in strong gusts and you can let the board fly over the fin. The manoeuvre handling also convinced the testers, the batten rotation is pleasantly smooth and regardless of whether you are manoeuvring the sail through power jibes and duck jibes or starting a front loop - the Torro simply leaves nothing to be desired.

GunSails Torro - the conclusion

The GunSails Torro is a convincing sail with no weaknesses: It scores with planing power, control and good handling, so the wind range of the sail is just as large as the target group. This makes the Torro ideal for sporty freeride and freemove boards with a single fin, but it is also a good choice for a multifin board in small Baltic surf.
