Pure freestyle! With the GA-Sails Pure, the main focus has been on the batten tuning. We tested whether this was successful.

The Pure has been the pure freestyle sail from GA-Sails for years. For the new season, the sail has been revised and equipped with stiffer battens in the centre section, which should improve control. All four available sizes are stretched, our test size with 4.8 square metres is rigged on a 400 mast. The luff curve is very moderate - as is typical for freestyle sails - and you can pull the necessary profile into the sail with just a little force. The following applies: Do not overtrim the luff, a slightly visible loose leech between the upper two battens should not be exceeded. The Pure can be adjusted at the boom depending on the wind - from "baggy" in light winds to flat in strong winds. The rest of the equipment is of a high standard, protected batten ends, a perfect mast protector and integrated carbon fibres leave nothing to be desired.

On the water:

In the planing phase, the Pure loads up really well and therefore offers a lot of planing power, regardless of whether you are just passively standing on the board or actively pumping. We were able to ride the sail well in all wind ranges with only minimal looseness in the top area; trim adjustments are made via the boom tension if necessary. Even in strong gusts, the sail remains stable at the centre of pressure for longer than we were used to, and the overall very light sail feel is now maintained even in stronger winds, without the sail feeling "baggy". Even in the bulbous trim, the profile pulls out nicely when ducking, which results in neutral handling with Kono & Co, although there are sails that can be ducked a little more precisely. On the other hand, the Pure delivers full power at the push of a button to pop out of the water for power moves.

surf conclusion:

The GA-Sails Pure covers a pleasingly wide wind range and always delivers enough vapour for power moves and the necessary neutrality to boot. This makes it a recommendation for both freestyle novices and cracks.
