Ezzy Sails has always gone its own way. Our test shows that the new Wave model is no different.

The Ezzy Wave 4.7 (surf measurement: 2.96 kilos) has been significantly modified in terms of luff curve and batten tuning in order to achieve a more neutral sail characteristic. The 4.7 has a luff length of just under 400 centimetres. It can therefore be ridden with a 370 centimetre mast and, thanks to the Variotop, a 400 centimetre mast. As all Ezzy masts are compatible, regardless of length, the 4.7 Wave is recommended on the 385 intermediate length with a 370 base and 400 top.

When trimming, you should not rely too much on the visible course of the loose leech, but pay attention to the factory-calibrated trim aid. In general, the sail offers a large trimming range. The recommended lengths for light and strong winds differ by a few centimetres on both the luff and the boom.

The equipment appears flawless and of high quality: the mesh materials used are rock solid, the mast protector can be opened all the way up, closed perfectly and even shortened if desired.

How the Ezzy Wave behaves on the water

The sail is very light and agile in the hand even in the breeze and the holding forces are extremely low. At the lower wind limit, the Ezzy Wave needs to be ridden a little more actively, as it is not an absolute powerhouse - it should only be trimmed moderately in light winds, especially on the boom. Once planing, however, it stabilises perfectly, is well-balanced in the hand and shines with great pressure point stability.

In general, the characteristics of the concept can be changed significantly depending on the trim. The specified range of trim dimensions should therefore be utilised to the full, as the sail can then be adapted to your own preferences and conditions. Trimmed with a belly, it offers powerful drive when riding the waves, which ensures that you arrive at the lip of the wave with plenty of speed. This allows powerful turns and gives less experienced wave riders confidence when riding. Rigged flat, the Ezzy Wave can now also be made noticeably more neutral, which enables effortless and playful riding on creamy days with sideoffshore wind. Regardless of the trim, the Ezzy always remains light and manageable in manoeuvres such as jibes or classic moves - with pleasant batten rotation.

Surf summary of the Ezzy Sails Wave:

The Ezzy Wave impresses with great control and lovely features. Depending on the trim, it shows many faces in the waves - from powerful to neutral. Both flat water fans and wave cracks will appreciate the strengths of the sail. The range of use is wide, with the pre-profiled battens only interfering with submerged freestyle moves.
