With a length of 222 centimetres and a volume of 115 litres, it should provide light kids who have already completed their first surf course with a sufficiently stable platform to continue practising. Thanks to a 34-centimetre-long centre fin (Powerbox system), the Micro Ride should also tack well in light winds, while the compact length means that turning impulses from small sails (<2.5 square metres) are also sufficient to allow relaxed tacking and jibing.
If the learning curve points upwards, the centre fin can be removed and the box closed, with variable strap options the board then mutates into a fully-fledged planing board. Loop and mast track positions are naturally adapted to the smaller dimensions of children. The front strap position in particular is designed to be effortless and easy to reach even when the board is still bobbing - to get children used to strap surfing at an early age. The Patrik Micro Ride has a soft deck and is available for 1599 euros.
